Concrete Forms

It is defined as the solid barrier in which concrete is poured and it holds the fluid until it hardens and acquire a particular shape. It is also used to give the particular shape as the mould. New Concrete form systems are developed that gives additional properties like insulation, surface patterns and effects to the concrete cast.

Types of Concrete Forms

The different types of concrete forms used in concrete casting are:
  • Wooden Forms
  • Insulated Concrete Forms
  • Foam Concrete Forms
  • Concrete Wall forms
  • Steel Forms
Wooden Forms

It is the most common type of Concrete Form. It consist of wooden boards usually plywood that may be screwed or nailed together to additional stakes, which are usually made of wood and steel. When using wood formwork, the stakes are driven into a prepared sub base, and the forming boards are set to a proper level or slope, using levelling devices. It is used where concrete casting is not more than 6 inch in height. Before pouring concrete, Inner surface should be greased so that it doesn’t stick.

Insulated Concrete Forms

An insulated concrete form system consists of a hollow block of insulating materials that fit together and is filled with concrete, and further reinforced with steel. It is used in foundation and wall construction where reinforcement is placed within this blocks and then concrete is poured.

Foam and decorative Concrete Forms

These forms are either made from melamine, acrylic glass or laminated board. These non-traditional and unconventional concrete forming methods are generally used to create negative spaces or inverted forms, where the concrete piece is usually pored upside down to achieve the desired fancy effect or texture finish which gives artistic look.

Concrete Wall Forms

It is used for large area walls, foundation and piers. These are the pre-manufactured forming systems. Concrete wall form sections come in different, sizes and shapes.  These systems are made with engineering wood with a steel framing.

Steel Concrete Forms

This is made of steel. It has a better long term solution in construction as if properly maintained it can secure for 2000 work cycle. It absorbs moisture from the concrete hence errors can be avoided after removing concrete forms.
